Twitter Rules for Local Businesses

Twitter Rules for Local Businesses

Internet marketing for small businesses has become more and more popular over the past few years. Some people have easily adapted to using social media and social networking sites to promote their companies and others have more trouble using sites like Facebook and Twitter. Nonetheless, sites like these are invaluable for small businesses because they are relatively easy to use, they are free, and they are very popular.

Twitter is one of the newer social media sites and it can also be used to promote a business just like other social media sites, such as Facebook. There are a few easy rules that you can follow to make your Twitter endeavor a success.

First, you have to create a Twitter account. You have to sign up with the site using your email, and then you choose your password. Make sure to write down your password and put it in a safe place so you don’t forget it. You also get to choose your username, and when you are making an account for your business, you should create a username that is related to the business’s name. You should also make it easy to remember, if possible, so that people can find it easily.

If you already have a personal Twitter account, you should always create a new account for your business. You should not mention personal issues on your business account, and you should limit the business account’s "tweets" to your business related news.

Once you have created an account, you need to start posting "tweets," which are short posts of no more than 140 characters. You can put up tweets about company news such as sales or promotions that you are running. You can also post links to your other sites and blogs. You can place these links in your tweets, but many links are very long and don’t fit in the 140 character limit. If this is the case, you can go to a number of websites that will generate a shorter URL for you, and then you can use that smaller URL instead.

You should make sure to update your Twitter every day, so that you can have the greatest affect. You can choose to "follow" other users, which will let you see their tweets, and you should ask people to follow you. Also, you should browse through other tweets and retweet them. This means that you repeat the other person’s post on your account. The user you retweet will be notified that you did it, and they will be directed to your Twitter. This kind of action will help you build a social network. Also, you can respond to other people’s tweets by hitting the reply button. The user will also be notified of this, and they will be directed back to your account.
